Latest News: French Chamber of Commerce at Home at Agathon Galleries 27 May
Agathon Galleries exhibited a selection of the galleries' Aboriginal Artists in Monaco at "Art Monaco '10 Special Edition", an exclusive regional and global platform for the promotion of contemporary art. Agathon Galleries drew wide acclaim for its presentation at the show: Thierry Ollat, Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Marseille (France) commented: "I'll give the Emotion Award to Agathon Galleries for all the art works presented, because it puts some light on a population for so long hidden and an art so recently discovered. " This high profile event was staged at the prestigious Grimaldi Forum in Monaco where in the Diaghilev Exhibition Hall some 100 exhibitors from around the globe presented thier art over the 4 day exhibition. It was attended by collectors, art critics, and the general public. Agathon Galleries artist Tommy Watson was featured on French National television over the period of the exhibition and a major artwork by the artist was sold to a local collector.

Our specialist area is the remote Western Australian community of Irrunytju which is located in the center of the continent, close to the tri-state borders of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Director of Agathon Galleries, John Ioannou, is the business advisor to Irrunytju which is a community owned and governed art centre. The Gallery represents some 30 artists from this community, the neighboring community of Wanarn and other centres. The gallery supports Aboriginal owned and operated art centres.
Artists represented include Alkuwarri Dawson, Angampa Martin, Anmanari Brown, Eileen Stevens, Lance Peck, Tiger Palpatja, Ruby Williamson, Helen McCarthy (Telstra and Torres Strait Islander People's Choice Winner 2007), Ivy Laidlaw, Tjayanka Woods, Jean Burke, Cynthia Burke, Jorna Newberry, Karrika Belle Davidson, Bernard Newberry, Kuntjil Cooper, Myra Cook, Simon Hogan, Patju Presley, Roma Butler, Jayaku Bilgiba, Tjayanka Woods, Tjuruparu Watson, Wingu Tingima and Yannima Tommy Watson. Helen McCarthy Tyalmuty is the 2007 People's Choice Winner of the Telstra and Torres Strait Islander Award. Helen McCarthy paints exclusively for Agathon Galleries.
Yannima Tommy Watson's work was chosen for permanent exhibition in the Musee du Quay Branly in Paris in 2007. Watson was one of six Indigenous Australian artists whose work was incorporated into the architectural structure of the museum. Watson's painting Wipu Rockhole will be on permanent display as a focal point of the museum's design, embedded in the ceiling. Yannima Tommy Watson paints exclusively for Agathon Galleries.
